Interior 10-Step quality assurance

STEP 1: Inspection
A careful inspection of your home is performed and accurate measurements are taken. Problem areas are identified and reported to you, the homeowner. We will assist you in selecting appropriate products and colors.

STEP 2: Wall and Furnishings Removal
Homeowner must remove all items from walls, shelves, and closets to be painted. Marin Sonoma HD Painting Services will move furniture, blinds and draperies.

STEP 3: Cover and Mask
All wall plates and switch covers will be removed or masked. Furniture and floors will be properly covered with clean drop cloths.

STEP 4: Patch and Repair
All surface cracks are filled and cleaned with a special material to ensure a good bond. Marin Sonoma HD Painting Services will remove picture hooks and patch holes for those items that will not be returned to their original location.

STEP 5: Wall Primer or Sealer
A specially formulated primer or sealer is applied as necessary for durability and to provide a good base for the new paint.

STEP 6: Wall Finish Coat
The finish coat is brushed, rolled or sprayed to achieve complete coverage and a professional finish.

STEP 7: Interior Trim and Doors
Interior trim and doors are sanded and prepared to provide a good base for the finish coat. Our specialists pay attention to detail on woodwork and doors to ensure a proper finish.

STEP 8: Reposition Wall Furnishings
Our specialists will assist the homeowner to re-hang and level wall furnishings.

STEP 9: Reposition Furniture
Our specialists will reposition furniture to its original location and re-hang blinds and draperies.

STEP 10: Quality Assurance
Upon completion, the homeowner will inspect the property with our specialist utilizing our easy to follow completion certificate checklist to ensure quality and satisfaction before we leave the job. Any items noted will be corrected immediately.

Exterior 10-Step quality assurance

STEP 2: Pressure Washing
All areas to be painted will be pressure washed and/or hand washed to remove mildew, contaminants, and loose paint. While performing this operation, hidden problem areas may be exposed requiring repair by an experienced craftsman at additional cost.

STEP 3: Trenching
Where necessary, Marin Sonoma HD Painting Services will trench along the foundation wall and apply paint below ground level.

STEP 4: Patch and Repair
Minor wood and masonry surface cracks will be repaired.

STEP 5: Scraping and Sanding
Loose paint is removed and the remaining paint is feather sanded to eliminate rough edges.

STEP 6: Caulking
Failed caulking will be removed and replaced for all windows, door casings, masonry cracks, and gaps in woodwork.

STEP 7: Masking and Shielding
Windows and doors are masked to prevent overspray/spatter of paint. Landscaping, fencing, decking and air conditioning units are covered and protected.

STEP 8: Primer or Sealer
A specially formulated primer/sealer is applied for durability and to provide a good base for the new finish paint.

STEP 9: Finish Coat
The finish coat is brushed, rolled or sprayed to achieve complete coverage and a professional finish.

Its 2005 sales totaled US$81.5 billion. Despite the 11% increase in revenue, it dropped one spot to #14 on the 2006 FORTUNE magazine's FORTUNE 500 list (it was #13 in 2005 on $73.1 billion sales in 2004). The Home Depot also owns EXPO Design Center, a chain of higher-end home decorating and appliance stores. In 2006, The Home Depot acquired Hughes Supply which is to be assimilated into HD Supply serving contractors. In September 2005, Home Depot Direct launched its high-end online home-furnishings store, 10 Crescent Lane, shortly followed by the launch of Paces Trading Company, its high-end online lighting store. Self-checkout

Home Depot has recently added self checkout registers at most of its stores in North America. These automated kiosks allow the customer to scan the barcode of the item they wish to purchase, then insert money to pay for the items, and receive any change automatically. The customer no longer needs to interact with a store employee during checkout, which has allowed Home Depot to redeploy more staff onto their store floors to assist shopping customers in some situations, and reduce overall staff in its stores in others, cutting labor costs and reducing the overhead.

Home Depot was a pioneer of these kiosks, although about 50% of customers do not approve of them.[citation needed] It is still a matter of controversy over whether these registers have increased or decreased the store's level of customer service.[citation needed]

Shareholder Controversy

At Home Depot's annual shareholder's conference [1] on May 29, 2006, in Wilmington, Delaware, many of the companies shareholders expressed anger and confusion about CEO Nardelli's pay package of $123.7 million, excluding stock option grants, over the past 5 years. Nardelli was awarded this package while Home Depot's stock sunk about 9%, and competitor Lowe's saw a 185% increase on a split-adjusted basis. While some stockholders were prepared to ask some tough and pointed questions to the board of directors, they were hindered by the fact that only one of the board's members actually showed up to the meeting, Nardelli himself. Their comments were kept to a strict time limit, displayed on a large clock. Nardelli refused to acknowledge any shareholder's comments, answer any questions, and he promptly left after only thirty minutes, causing an uproar of anger and rage. Votes on shareholder proposals afterward showed an unusually high level of dissent, with over one third withholding their support for Nardelli's re-election as CEO.

The company's "official" excuse for the absence of the board on the day of the meeting was that "many" of the directors were at headquarters over the past few days for their quarterly meeting and remain there today on company business. But directors had over a month's notice of the meeting, with the date and location of the meeting being posted on April 14th, 2006. Directors are also paid for travel expenses to and from shareholder meetings by the company, with full access to a corporate jet.

Home Depot stock has sunk further since the debacle, from about $43 a share in April to just under $35 a share in mid July.
